Rev Robert Asante making the donation at KATH
THE GRACE Baptist Church at Amakom in Kumasi has made cash and material donations valued at about GH?40,000 to address the plight of vulnerable people at three strategic social entities in the city as part of its social responsibility policy, marking its Golden Jubilee celebration on Saturday, February 24, 2018.
Members of the Church, led by its Pastors, clad in their ceremonial T-shirts went to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), the Manhyia local prison and All Nations Charity Home at Ayigya in Kumasi to make the donations.
At KATH, the Church presented a cash of GH?5000 to pay for the medical bills of patients and mothers who were unable to pay their bills weeks after giving birth at the facility. Quantities of assorted items including diapers, detergents, bags of sugar, cartoons of milk and Milo, as well as cooked food were also donated.
Specifically, some distress patients at the Mother and Babies Unit (MBU), Paediatric Energy Unit (PEU) and Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) benefited from the Church’s generosity.
A Senior Nursing Officer, Victoria Afrah, who spoke on behalf of the hospital, commended the Grace Baptist Church for its kind gesture. She said the cash donation would particularly help alleviate the financial burden facing some of the mothers.
“The cash donation will help ease congestion here and create space for new admissions, and the other items like the diapers would be given to the babies whose parents and relatives cannot afford them,” she said.
Meanwhile, inmates at the Manhyia local prison and All Nations Charity Home, received assortment of items including benches, Twi Bibles, boxes of soap, toiletries, clothing, bags of sugar and gari, and loaves of bread. Cooked food was also served. At the prison, the Church shared the gospel of Jesus Christ with the inmates for the salvation of their souls.
In his brief remarks, Rev. Robert Kwadwo Asante, the head pastor of Grace Baptist Church, Amakom, advised governments and heads of institutions, departments and agencies to be good stewards of Ghana’s resources, and ensure their judicious use for the benefit of all citizens.
The clergyman said it is Grace Baptist Church’s plan to do a holistic ministry to the body, soul and spirit of people, and they considered it prudent to give to show appreciation to God in the hospital, prison and the orphanage where very needy people are found.
