GTA Hosts 2021 Tripartite Meeting

The Ghana Tourism Authority has hosted a tripartite breakfast meeting with some key hoteliers and the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the 2021 FIG Working Week at the Accra Tourist Information Centre (ATIC) in Accra.

The meeting which was organised on behalf of the FIG Working Week LOC was to brief the industry on Ghana winning the rights to host and organise the FIG Working Week in Accra and explore possibilities for globally competitive hotel rates for the event.

In a presentation, the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), Kwame Tenadu Snr, pointed out that hosting the FIG Working Week in 2021 will “afford Ghana a global platform over the next four years (2018-2021) to showcase Accra as a preferred conferencing destination with an increasing global hotel brand franchisesfor accommodation and unique rich cultural heritage and tourism sites as side attractions for participants to tour.”

He added that hosting of the annual FIG Working Week are competed for by cities with the rights awarded in batches of four years, meaning Accra 2021 will be preceded by Istanbul (Turkey) 2018, Hanoi (Vietnam) 2019 and Amsterdam (Netherlands) 2020 to give the LOC the opportunity to showcase Ghana to the growing participants at these venues.

Ghana won the rights to host and organise the 2021 FIG Working Week by beating Krakow, Poland last year, 2017 at the Helsinki, Finland edition with a joint bid by the Ghana Institution of Surveyors (GhIS) and the Licensed Surveyors Association of Ghana (LISAG).

Speaking at the meeting, Mr Akwasi Agyeman, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) and Chairman of the Hospitality Sub-Committee of the FIG Working Week 2021 Accra, reemphasized the importance of ensuring that participants and all tourists for the conference are accorded the requisite courtesies befitting their statuses for the two weeks period of the conference by the hospitality sector.

Over 35 Accra-based hotels and conference centres of different classifications were represented at the tripartite breakfast meeting.
