An uncompromising clash is expected when reigning FA Cup champions Accra Hearts of Oak battle Great Olympics on August 7, when they clash for the Ga Mantse Cup.

The capital derby launched five days ago in Accra is set to renew the age-long rivalry between the two and also to honour the Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II as well as celebrate this year’s Homowo Festival.

The uncompromising clash, the first since he ascended the throne, also forms part of the traditional leader’s quest to construct a modern football academy in Accra.

The Ga Mantse expressed the hope that the game would promote unity in the Ga state and contribute to the construction of the Ga Mantse School of Soccer Excellence.

He pointed out that the facility, when completed, will house FIFA standard pitches, an Information Technology Centre, libraries, a clinic, accommodation facilities, offices, a swimming pool and a canteen.

To the Ga Mantse, the two traditional clubs were selected as a result of their contributions to the development and promotion of football in the Ga state over the years.

The traditional ruler urged both clubs to give their best shots to make the game and the celebration of the festival epochal.

Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Kurt Okraku, commended the Ga Mantse for contributing towards the development of sports and youth development in Accra.

Traditional leaders of the Ga state, board members of both clubs, members of the diplomatic corps and executives of the GFA graced the event.

The Ga Mantse Cup has received donations from Bethel Logistics, the National Lottery Authority (NLA), Ghana Gas and Republic Bank.
