Richmond Bekoe
Talented and versatile Ghanaian standup Comedian, Richmond Bekoe has added his voice to the call on Ghanaians to support GH Comedy.
According to him, the situation is appalling especially when it is an event organised by Nigerian comedians in Ghana.
“Our own people are quick to patronise the Naija ones to the detriment of ours. Let a Ghanaian organised a show at even a cheaper rate, you will only see a handful of people there, ” he said.
He told this writer that the crowd that turns up is not even exciting enough and this gives the indication that Ghanaians do not support their own.
“When you watch Nigerian comedies, some of the comedians, especially, the upcoming ones, are not funny but the crowd cheers them on with applause and encouragement. Comedy is an art which we build on. If today my stuff is not funny, the encouragement from the crowd alone can spur me on to bring out something better next time, “he said.
To him, it is about time Ghanaians learned to build their own with patience and tolerance because that is how all other advanced countries started theirs.
