CONFESSION! Inspector Ahmed Twumasi
INSPECTOR AHMED Twumasi, a serving police officer accused of shooting his girlfriend, Victoria Dapaah aka Maa Adwoa, has revealed the reason behind his action.
Making his maiden appearance before the Asokore Mampong District Court yesterday, the suspect, who is standing trial for murder, said the deceased owed him GH¢5,000, which she reportedly refused to pay.
Inspector Twumasi, aka Tycoon, who surprisingly came to court without a counsel, took responsibility for Maa Adwoa’s death last Thursday evening, saying “what happened is between me and God.”
He, however, stated that he had no ulterior motive to kill her, indicating that he suddenly got angry and shot his girlfriend dead.
The suspect’s plea was not taken by the court, presided over by Samuel Buabin Quansah, who remanded the suspect to police custody as suggested by the prosecution.
Inspector Twumasi is expected to return to the court on May 30, 2023, by which time the police would have advanced their investigations, for the continuation of the case.
Prosecutor’s Narration
Earlier on, whilst reading the facts of the case in court, Police Prosecutor ACP Kofi Blagodzi, said one Emmanuel Sarpong, a brother of the late Maa Adwoa, is the complainant in the case.
According to him, Mr. Sarpong, last Thursday evening, reported to the police that his sister has been shot dead at Adum, in the heart of Kumasi, and the body has been rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
The prosecutor narrated that the police proceeded to KATH and the medical professionals there confirmed that indeed Maa Adwoa was brought to the medical facility already dead.
ACP Blagodzi continued that police preliminary investigations pointed to the fact that the key suspect was a policeman, who is attached to the SWAT Unit at the Ashanti Regional Police Command.
The suspect, he said, on that fateful day, visited the house of the deceased, and called her through Maa Adwoa’s female friend by name Eunice.
According to the prosecutor, the suspect claimed Maa Adwoa owed him GH¢5,000, and so he asked her to refund the money, but the late girlfriend refused to refund the cash.
Suspect Twumasi then became furious over the girlfriend’s refusal to pay the money, so he shot her chest and abdomen at close range with his service rifle.
The prosecutor said what transpired between the suspect and the deceased was captured by a Close Circuit Television (CCTV), adding that Inspector Twumasi then went into hiding but he was eventually nabbed and arraigned.
Tears In Court
Meanwhile, the entire courtroom was virtually turned into a mourning ground, especially, as the prosecutor read the facts about what led to the unfortunate death of Maa Adwoa.
Most of the people present in the courtroom, especially the family members of the deceased, were seen shedding uncontrollable tears, with some of them hurling curses and insinuations at Inspector Twumasi.
Tight Security
There was also tight security at the court premises as armed policemen were seen stationed at vantage points to help prevent angry people from attacking the suspect, who has now become public enemy in Kumasi.
