Ghanaian broadcast journalist and entrepreneur, Afua Asantewaa O. Aduonum, has pledged to hold the flag of Ghana aloft in her attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon by an individual.

The ‘Singathoner’ will from December 24 to 28 attempt to break a record set in 2012 by Sunil Waghmare, at the Akwaaba Village near the Airport Round About in Accra.

She is currently bracing herself for the five-day uphill task with scheduled rehearsal at the Jukebox Studios in Accra.

In an interview after one of her sessions, she said, “It is an attempt, an uphill task for that matter, but surmountable. I have put in much by way of preparation, l won’t let Ghana down, l will push to the last limit.”

And responding to what motivated her to attempt the challenge, she added, “l am not a professional musician but I am doing this for the Ghanaian music industry. I monitored how far Baci took Nigeria to on the globe with cooking, so l decided to do this to put Ghana music up there. I am doing strictly Ghanaian songs; all the genres, not less than two minutes per song and then l have five minutes break in each hour.”

“There is a medical team, ambulance, DJs, a timer, witnesses, a production team on board to ensure we have a hitch-free event,” she disclosed.

The epoch-making event is in partnership with the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), with support from Despite Media, Sonotech, Jamila Home, Cowbell Milk, Latex Foam, Dr. Emmanuel Bortey Borketey and others.
