The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has engaged the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to discuss the alarming rise in vandalism and unrest among supporters, which has sparked fear and panic across the nation.

Earlier, Director of Communications at the Ghana Police Service, ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, highlighted the significant impact of property destruction and the mass gatherings that have contributed to the growing tension.

The IGP assured party leaders that security services are committed to arresting and prosecuting individuals involved in these acts of vandalism, to uphold the peace and security of the country.

He urged NDC leadership to leverage their structures to communicate with supporters nationwide, emphasising the need to put an end to these damaging activities that tarnish the nation’s image.

In response, the NDC leadership, led by its General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, has expressed their commitment to cooperating with law enforcement.

They pledged to engage their supporters in efforts to maintain peace and security during this critical period.

Fifi Kwetey reiterated the party’s stance against taking the law into their own hands, assuring that once the president-elect assumes office on January 7, accountability measures will be enforced for those who have acted improperly.

He called on NDC supporters to await proper instructions from leadership, even in the face of provocation.
