I’ll Work To Win Power For NPP – Bawumia

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia

Flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has  assured supporters of the party of his commitment to wrestle power from the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 2028.

Dr. Bawumia said this when some party delegates visited him at his private residence to convey their support to him after a successful election as the NPP presidential candidate for the 2028 general election.

“You have saved the party by your action. Because the message is gone, and in 2028, they cannot use the same message against us; it will rather give us strength. I want to assure you that because you have imposed your confidence in me, I will work at all times to ensure that we win power in 2028. I will not sleep. I will work day and night to ensure that I bring the power to the NPP,” he stated.

Dr. Bawumia indicated that the New Patriotic Party has enough numbers, hence called on supporters of the party to be united and focus on a common agenda to unseat the NDC in the 2028 general election.

“When you look at the data, we have more numbers than the NDC, and so all we need is unity. In 2024, our members didn’t vote. So, if we are able to bring everybody on board, we can win. Our task is clear. At this time, we are moving to phase two, so I want to plead with you all to assist us in this fight,” he added.

Dr.  Bawumia further mentioned that the new phase of the NPP requires commitment from all members of the party, as it works to rebuild its structures and reorganise ahead of the 2028 general election.

The former Vice President, on Saturday, January 31, won the party’s presidential primary, securing 110,643 votes, representing 56.48 per cent of the total valid votes cast in over 300 polling centres across the country.

Other aspirants of the flagbearer primary, which was described by political pundits as one of the most peaceful and well-organised internal elections by the NPP, are former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong; former Minister for Agriculture, Dr. Bryan Acheampong; former Minister for Education and Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum; and former General Secretary of the NPP, Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong.

The party has also announced plans to hold a two-part National Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, February 22, 2026, aimed at expressing gratitude to God for a peaceful and credible internal election.

The services are expected to be attended by the flagbearer of the party, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, national executives, Christian and Muslim clergy, former and current Members of Parliament, among several other dignitaries.
