Kwame Asuah Takyi – Comptroller-General of Immigration
The Comptroller-General of Immigration (CGI), Mr. Kwame Asuah Takyi has said that effective integration and collaboration among security agencies was very crucial for the sustenance of democratic governance of a country.
According to him, the sustenance of democratic governance was measured by the ability of security agencies to protect life and property as well as the maintenance of public order. He said this was attainable only when security agencies collaborated and shared intelligence. “If there is instability, it is not the government that has failed, it is the security agencies that have failed,” he added.
Mr. Takyi made the remark when a 17 member delegation led by the National Security Advisor from Gambia, Mr. Momodou Badjie, paid a working visit to the National Headquarters of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) to learn from the GIS in a bid to reform Gambia’s security sector.
He indicated that security and democracy were bedfellows, and that, the success of any country was dependent on its security.
The CGI counseled that security was an expensive venture which required investment, adding: “financial issues should not be a reason not to invest in security.”
He commended Gambia for the effort to strengthen and reform its security sector, especially when the world was confronted with terrorism and terrorist-related activities.
Mr Momodou Badjie expressed gratitude to the authorities of the Ghana Immigration Service for sharing ideas and giving them the necessary guidance.
He praised the Ghanaian culture of hospitality and hoped the knowledge shared would help improve the problem of porous borders in their home country.
The delegation was taken through a presentation on the mandate, functions and operational duties of the GIS as well as its contribution to national security.
