Israeli Authorities Must Exercise Maximum Restraint – UN Warns

The United Nations (UN) has warned Israeli authorities to exercise maximum in the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

“Israeli authorities must exercise maximum restraint and respect the right to freedom of peaceful assembly. All leaders have a responsibility to act against extremists and to speak out against all acts of violence and incitement,” United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, urges.

The call comes as Israel’s military announced it unleashed on Thursday night, May 13, 2021, an “unprecedented” assault on the Gaza Strip with artillery and air strikes in response to a new barrage of rocket fire from the Hamas-run enclave.

The recent fight is the considered the most severe conflict between Israel and Palestine since 2014.

Some 103 Palestinians and eight Israelis have been killed, Palestinian and Israeli official figures, revealed.

French President, Emmanuel Macron, had earlier called for ceasefire and dialogue.
