Dr Mahamudu Bawumia
“Moses was the Lord’s servant and Joshua; the son of Nun was Moses’ assistant. After Moses died, the Lord spoke to Joshua and said, “My servant Moses is dead. Now, you and all the people must go across the Jordan River. You must go into the land I am giving to the Israelis. I promised Moses that I will give you this land so I will give you all the land wherever you go. All the land from the desert in the south to Lebanon in the east and the north will be yours. It will lead to the great river, Euphrates including all the land of the Hittites. Just as I was with Moses, I will be with you. No one will be able to stop you all your life. I will not abandon you. I will never leave you. You must be strong and brave.” The Book of Joshua.
It came to pass that Ghanaians voted for Nana Akufo-Addo to lead them for eight years. For the past eight years, the country saw unprecedented tremendous development projects such as good roads, overhead bridges, railways, interchanges, school blocks, bridges, Astro Turfs, hospitals, delivery of essential medicines through drones, digitalisation the almighty free SHS among many others. In a matter of three days, the reign of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the Executive President of Ghana will come to an end. Like Joshua, his Vice President Dr. Bawumia was chosen to hold the baton and take the people of Ghana to the promised land.
Dr. Bawumia has criss crossed the country with his message. When a Mamprugu man says “Bawumia” it means “they have heard it.” The good people of Ghana have heard the heartwarming messages of the whiz kid, and the battle line is drawn. Wherever Dr. Bawumia went, the crowd flew into ecstasy and uncontrollable shout of “It is Possible”. Dr. Bawumia has surrounded himself with very competent people, and that is the mark of a leader.
He confidently challenged his main opponent, Mr. Mahama to a debate duel but the fear in Mahama made him to run away like the way nkoko nketenkete do. You call a man a liar and he calls you to a debate to prove that he is not a liar and you are running away? No wonder Julius Caesar said cowards die many times before their death.
And so it came to pass that as Dr. Bawumia started his campaign, supporters of the NPP complained that they were not seeing President Akufo-Addo and former President Kufuor, both stewards of the NPP, joining the campaign. Unknown to these supporters, something was cooking in the kitchen. Then Nana Akufo-Addo laced his boots and hit the road, running like a hare, commissioning projects which was not known and seen by many Ghanaians.
He said he was going on a Thank You tour, and used one stone to kill two birds. He preached the virtues of Dr. Bawumia and exposed the NDC who did not see anything good about the NPP government. Mr. Mahama started to complain why the President was campaigning for Dr. Bawumia. Because he is shortsighted and forgettable, he failed or refused to remember that the late President Rawlings campaigned vigorously for the late President Mills and him, Mr. Mahama.
At a point in time, President Akufo-Addo went “mad’ and told Mahama that he will not stop campaigning for Bawumia today or tomorrow. That statement brought the infantile complain to rest. The question I asked myself was, “Do you expect Nana Addo to campaign for Hassan Ayariga the visionless man who coughed to distract Nana Addo during a presidential debate after receiving a ‘brown envelop’ from the NDC?” I am referring to the “Ayaricough” issue. Didn’t Mr. Mahama observe how Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, Joe Biden and their spouses campaigned vigorously for Kamala Harris, the Democrat presidential candidate? Did Mr. Trump complain the way he, Mahama, the desperado and accomplished loser, is doing in Ghana?
And so it came to pass in those same days that, the legendary and iconoclastic living legend, John Agyekum Kufuor, the former president of Ghana, granted an interview to a journalist and used the occasion to tell Ghanaians the virtues of candidate Dr. Bawumia and recommended him for Ghanaians to vote for him to become the next president of Ghana. Della Edem breathed on the shoulders of the good old man. He did not see the wisdom of the ex-president campaigning for the flagbearer of the NPP.
The madness in his stomach made him to go wayward by saying it was the wickedness of Mr. Kufuor that has made him to sit in a wheel chair. As for this guy, I am yet to go into my arsenal of English vocabulary to take him to the cleaners at the time of my choosing for being so reckless. His apology will not save him from the eagle’s claws. Mark my words.
And it also came to pass that former president Kufuor hit the campaign trail in his wheel chair after that silly comment of that uncouth guy called Edem. I understand Kufuor for defying all odds at his age to hit the road one more time. During his tenure of office, he introduced many poverty alleviation programmes which were destroyed by the Mahama regime when the NDC took over power in 2012. So this time around, he felt he should not sit down for these nation wreckers to come back one more time to destroy all the legacies of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo like they did to his own legacy. The sages say ‘once bitten, twice shy’. From 2008 to 2016, the Nana Addo team insisted that the Battle is the Lord’s and the Lord listened and crowned Nana Addo.
This time, Dr. Bawumia is telling Ghanaians that “It is Possible” and so do I believe. If you follow the history of Israel, you will realise that where people think it is impossible for God’s chosen people to pass through, they survive. In other words, with the help of the mighty hand of God, impossibility turns to possibility.
My cherished reader, did you observe how the free SHS flagship programme of Nana Addo haunted and tormented the conscience of the NDC, led by Mahama who kicked against the programme and promised to cancel it when they come to power during the electioneering campaign?. How I wish Mr. Rawlings is alive to see his prophesy come true!
See you in Jerusalem after the battle royal where we will celebrate the Passover together. And it will come to pass that after the battle you, my cherished reader will read in this column, my opus magnum. Full stop.
