Reggae/dancehall artiste J. Derobie has released a new song titled ‘Riches’ in appreciation of all who supported him to win an award at the just-ended 2020 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs).
The emPawa30 star won the reggae/dancehall song of the year award at the VGMAs held in Accra, in recognition of the hit song ‘Poverty’.
He beat the likes of Epixode, Ras Kuuku, Article Wan, Jupitar and AK Songstress to win the prominent category.
On the new song, he urged anyone listening not to give up because life will get better one day.
“Every ghetto youth is a star… Every ghetto youth afit get richer than riches,” he said in the new song to inspire his followers.
Derobie, who was discovered by Mr. Eazi through his emPawa project which involved shooting music videos for 100 upcoming artistes, is not relenting on his dream to become one of the most successful musicians on earth.
Earlier, the dancehall sensation released his ‘Nungua Diaries’ EP.
The six-song EP, which takes its name from the Accra community where J. Derobie grew up, contains a mix of dancehall, Afrobeats and Afro-dancehall tracks with production from GuiltyBeatz, Uche B., UglyOnIt and BeatzFada.
The award he received on Saturday is his first VGMAs win.
