JB ’Killers’ Want Int’l Lawyers

Daniel Asiedu aka Sexy Don Don and Vincent Bosu

Daniel Asiedu, the main suspect in the murder of the Member of Parliament (MP) for Abuakwa North, JB Danquah –Adu appears not to trust the ability of Ghanaian lawyers to represent him as he has requested for the services of a lawyer from the International Criminal Court (ICC).

The court had earlier ordered him and his alleged accomplice, Vincent Boso to make sure they have legal representation before yesterday’s proceedings as the state was ready to do the committal which determines whether or not they have a case to answer.

Although the two are struggling to engage lawyers to represent them, Daniel Asiedu aka Sexy Don Don does not think Ghanaian lawyers can defend him in the matter which he describes as “a big case”.

He is subsequently asking the court to get him a lawyer from the international court to represent him in the matter.

“I need a lawyer but I want one from the ICC, so please help me to get one,” Daniel Asiedu pleaded with the court, presided over by Arit Nsemoh.

The court during yesterday’s proceedings had to ask the clerks to go round to look for lawyers for the two but no lawyers were found.

Two senior state attorneys from the Attorney General Office were in the courtroom, ready to do the committal after they had filed the bill of indictment on the two last month.

But the absence of legal representation for the two accused persons forced the court to adjourn the matter as the presiding Magistrate insisted that the accused persons must be legally represented.

She therefore directed the court registrar to write to the Judicial Service to request for lawyers from the Legal Aid Scheme for the two.

The Office of the Attorney General on December 17, 2018 filed the bill of indictment on the two suspects.

The bill of indictment contains the specific offences committed by the accused persons as presented by the AG’s Office.

Appearing before the court, Sefakor Batse, a senior state attorney told the court presided over by Arit Nsemoh that the AG on December 17, 2018 filed the bill of indictment on the two but was yet to serve them.

She therefore prayed for a date so that the committal can be done. The presiding judge subsequently asked the accused persons to get lawyers before the next sitting and in case they do not get one, they can rely on the Legal Aid department for legal representation.

The two were served with the bill of indictment right after the court proceedings.
