Ivy Heward Mills, wife of the late Member of Parliament (MP) for Abuakwa North, JB Danqua-Adu, has sued the Assin Central MP and eight others for defamation, demanding GH¢50 million.
The suit comes few months after the outspoken MP made some comments which suggested that the late MP’s widow was in a relationship with private investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
Mr. Agyapong made the comment ahead of the premiering of Anas’ ‘Number 12’ investigative piece which unravelled alleged corrupt dealings in the Ghana Football Association.
The widow, however, took offence in the allegations and has decided to drag the lawmaker to court over the comments she deems to be defamatory.
Attached to the suit are Kennedy Agyapong’s Kencity Media, Despite Group Limited, Multimedia Group Limited, EIB Group, Joy Daddy Media Group, F-Giant Broadcasting Limited, Apex Media and Ghana Soccernet.
She is demanding damages to the tune of GH¢50 million from the MP and the other defendants.
Apart from the money, Ivy also wants the plaintiffs to apologise for the defamatory statements approved by the court and should “be published with the same prominence as the defamatory statements and publications on the various sites or stations that the statements were published and in the Daily Graphic and Ghanaian Times”.
The Abuakwa North MP was on February 9, 2016, stabbed to death in his home at Shiashe in Accra.
The late MP met his untimely death when Daniel Asiedu allegedly went to his house to rob him and during a struggle stabbed the MP multiple times.
He has been charged with murder while his accomplice Vincent Boso is facing abetment of crime to wit murder charges.
The two were discharged by an Accra High Court after the Attorney General filed for discontinuation of the earlier trial. The two were, however, re-arrested with new charges levelled against them.
An Accra High Court has refused to grant them bail, saying the police are still investigating the matter.
The state has filed a bill of indictment on the two suspects and is set to do their committal.
