Joe Biden
Former Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate, Joe Biden, and his wife, Jill, have wished President Donald Trump and the First Lady of the United States, Melania, a speedy recovery.
The first couple of the US have both tested positive for coronavirus.
President Trump announced their coronavirus status in a tweet on Friday morning, October 2, 2020.
And in a tweet on Friday afternoon, Mr Biden wrote: ‘Jill and I send our thoughts to President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump for a swift recovery. We will continue to pray for the health and safety of the president and his family.”
According to the President in his tweet around 1:00am on Friday, “Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!”
Their positive test is deemed
the most serious known health threat to a sitting American president in decades.
Mr Trump is 74 years old and obese. He falls into the highest risk category for serious complications from the disease, which has killed over 206,000 Americans and more than 1 million people worldwide.
He has for the most part of the pandemic ignored the science, refused to wear nose masks and has held large political rallies even though experts have been calling for social distancing.
A White House statement has indicated that Mr Trump is doing well and that the virus will not disrupt his presidential duties.
Jill and I send our thoughts to President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump for a swift recovery. We will continue to pray for the health and safety of the president and his family.
