John Dumelo Finally Concedes Defeat In 2020 Parliamentary Election

Actor John Dumelo has finally conceded defeat to Lydia Alhassan, MP-elect for Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency, almost two weeks after results for the 2020 parliamentary elections had been declared.

The National Democratic Congress MP aspirant for Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency was one of the front runners in the election who came close to Lydia who retained the seat for the New Patriotic Party.

He polled 37,778 votes behind Lydia who won with 39,851 out of 77,604 total votes on December 7. After the election, John called for recount, alleging irregularities in the figures. However, that didn’t guarantee the magic he anticipated.

Almost two weeks after the election has ended, he has now conceded and congratulated himself for giving Lydia a tough race.

“So I want to thank the over 37,000 people who voted for me in Ayawaso West Wuogon. From the bottom of my heart, I really appreciate you all. To those that didn’t vote for me, I hope that in the future I can work and prove to you that I’m worthy of your vote.

“To Lydia, many said it was impossible for me to even dream of winning but the numbers I pulled in, and you winning by a very small margin, especially in such a stronghold of the NPP makes me extremely proud of the whole campaign,” he said in a long Instagram post over the weekend.

“I may not be satisfied with the final results or the irregularities that occurred, but before everything else I am Ghanaian and I will always put the people first,” he stated.

“To my colleague actors and those in the creative arts industry who supported me, God bless each and every one of you, many of you did without me having to ask and I appreciate the overwhelming show of support,” he added.
