Jon Benjamin with John Dumelo
Former UK High Commissioner to Ghana, Jon Benjamin, won’t stop reminding Ghanaians of John Dumelo’s V8 saga, as he did it again minutes after the actor came out victorious in the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) parliamentary elections on Saturday.
Dumelo joined the likes of Dzifa Gomashie and Ebi Bright as creative arts persons who won their parliamentary bids in the NDC elections. Actresses Dzifa and Ebi won Ketu South and Tema West respectively.
John, on the other hand, won in the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency ahead of the 2020 general elections. He had 758 votes while his only contender, Madam Adoboe, had 99 votes.
He has since Saturday received congratulatory message from friends and his well-wishers.
But Jon Benjamin, in his congratulatory message to Dumelo, alluded to the V8 saga.
“@johndumelo1 – ayekooo paaaa for your nomination, the first step on a long political journey to becoming Ghana’s President – some time around the year 20V8,” Jon Benjamin said in tweet on Saturday.
The tweet attracted a lot of attention over the weekend.
It could be recalled that the popular movie actor-turned-politician was previously accused of illegally keeping two expensive V8 Land Cruisers, which National Security operatives said belonged to the government.
It turned out later that the stolen National Security vehicle – one with registration GE 8118 –16 was fitted with sophisticated communication gadgets.
Since the interception, the vehicle has been in the custody of the National Security without any action from the actor to get it back.
