KGL, Govt Collaboration Game-Changer

A collaboration between government and KGL Technology Limited, a licenced online marketing company and digital service provider in charge of the digital short code, #959*, will enhance the ongoing government digitisation project.

The call was contained in a statement issued by Razak Poku, a psychologist registered with the Ghana Psychology Council.

His recommendations, according to him, are practical and laden with enormous dividends for all stakeholders.

The *959#, he noted, had proven to be a very robust platform capable of providing other important digital services apart from the usual business of generating revenue for the National Lottery Authority (NLA).

The digital short code had been well marketed and the brand was exuding an outstanding base, he noted, adding that it had the potential for serving as a purpose vehicle for the payment of utility bills such as payment of water bills through collaboration with Ghana Water Company Limited.

A meaningful collaboration with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), he went on, could enhance the payment of bills.

When extended to COCOBOD, it could facilitate payments to cocoa farmers.

Collaboration with the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), he continued, would ensure the Voluntary Tax Compliance through the registration of the Tax Identification Number (TIN).

“The effective collaboration between KGL Technology Limited and the Government of Ghana through the Economic Management Team, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation and the aforementioned agencies would help to further strengthen the provision of digital services, e-commerce and the overall digitalization project as championed by government,” he emphasized.

The recommendations were contained in a statement headlined ‘Digitalisation Programme of Government: Making a Valid and Solid Case for KGL Technology Limited’.

The digitisation project of government had witnessed a fillip through the Economic Management Team, the Bank of Ghana, Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems (GhIPPS), the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Communications, the National Communications Authority (NCA), telecommunication companies such as MTN, Vodafone and AirtelTigo and KGL Technology Limited, he observed.

Ghana has the baseline infrastructures such as Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGs), Automated Teller Machines (ATMs), POS Switches coupled with Mobile Money Interoperability—all aimed at achieving the digitalisation of the Ghanaian economy.
