Kintampo Association Wants Chiefs To Release Land For Farming

Ernest Appiah Yeboah presenting the petition to Nana Amponsah Gyan II

The Kintampo South Development Association (KISYDA) has petitioned the nine chiefs in the area to release lands for farming activities.

Secretary of the association, Ernest Appiah Yeboah, said the time has come for the chiefs and elders in Krutakyi, Pamdu, Paninamisa, Nkwanta, Jema, Nante, Krabonso (Accra), Ayima and Ampoma to support efforts to develop the area.

He said the major occupation of the people in the district is farming and only a few farmlands are available for the youth in particular to farm.

According to him, illegal chainsaw operators have depleted the Bosomamoa Forest Reserve, adding that the area could be given to the youth to support the ‘Planting For Food And Jobs’ programme which has improved agriculture in the country.

Mr. Appiah said since there are no other jobs in the area, the youth who have no land to farm have taken to alcoholism, smoking and other social vices.

“We want the Bosomomamoa Forest Reserve land to be released to the aforementioned communities to pave way for the youth to be self-employed.

Receiving the petitioned on behalf of the communities, the chief of Jema and Kyidomhene of Nkoranza Traditional area Nana Amponsah Gyan II assured the youth that they would take steps to address their concerns.

Nana Amponsah II said they are aware of the problems and appealed to them to exercise restraint.

He also cautioned the youth not to take the law into their hands.
