Kojo Bonsu $4.4m Rattray Park Shut Down

The sealed-off Rattray Park

THE RATTRAY Park, a recreational facility in Kumasi, Ashanti Regional capital, has been closed down by the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).
The closure reportedly took place Friday afternoon when the facility was opened to the public.
Personnel of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), a division of the GRA, sealed off all exit points of the facility with cello tape and left, creating a scene.
Speculations making the rounds in the city indicated that the Rattray Park owed the IRS a huge amount of money.
Unconfirmed reports have it that managers of the Rattray Park had refused to pay taxes to the state.

The GRA reportedly closed down the facility after reminders to managers of the facility to settle the debt were ignored.
Eyewitnesses said personnel of the IRS stormed the place in a Hollywood fashion Friday afternoon to undertake the action.
Workers of the Rattray Park and people relaxing at the place at the time were ordered to leave.
“Keep off – Property Attached, By Commissioner, IRS,” was written boldly on the cello tape.

The Rattray Park has been a subject of controversy since it was commissioned by President Mahama.
Assembly members of the KMA accused the former KMA boss, Kojo Bonsu, of financial malfeasance.
They alleged that the $4.4 million that he quoted as the project cost was too huge.
The assembly members therefore, charged the relevant bodies to probe Kojo Bonsu regarding the project cost.
The request of the assembly members could not be responded to before Mr Kojo Bonsu was sacked from office.
