Kumasi Central Mosque Commissioinng Friday

All is set for the commissioning of the renovated Kumasi Central Mosque on Friday, March 3, 2023.

The renovation was funded by Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, which is a fulfillment of a promise he made earlier.

With the renovation, the capacity of the mosque has been raised from a previous 3,000 capacity to 7,000.

Fully airconditioned, it is fitted with over 30 underground washrooms, including a 100-capacity ablution area.

There are also 11 furnished offices, an Imam’s office with a 40-man capacity, including two-bedroom apartments for the use of guests of the mosque.

The 500-man capacity conference hall is fitted with CCTV cameras for enhanced security.

There are two corpse bathing rooms.

Kumasi has a large Muslim community, the Garden City’s association with Islam dating back to pre-colonial days.

In those days, proceedings in the Asantehene’s Palace used to be recorded by Arabic-writing scholars in Aljami.

The history of the Asante Kingdom is captured in this writing form, and part of the archive of the palace.

There is no doubt that the renovated mosque will add to the skyline of the Garden City.
