Kumasi Gang Rape Witnesses Run Away

Two witnesses in the trial of four teenagers who allegedly gang-raped a minor in the Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi, have been subpoenaed by the court.

Reports said that the two witnesses-namely Kwabena Boateng, the Unit Committee Chairman for Bantama, Yaw Amankwa, the tenant in whose room the minor was allegedly raped, refused to willingly appear before the Kumasi Court to testify.

It would be recalled that in December 2017 a video recording of four teenage boys gang-raping a girl was leaked.

The about six-minute video sparked outrage across the country, especially on social media.

The prosecutors in the case are facing difficulties because the victim has refused to cooperate with them.

According to reports, the victim reportedly spent about three hours at the State Attorney’s Office in the Garden City.

She reportedly failed to give evidence to the lawyers.

Information reaching DAILY GUIDE indicates that the prosecutors are worried about the development.

This necessitated the arrest of the unit committee member, who was forced to appear before the court on Wednesday to give testimony.

Hearing took place in camera and the witness was reportedly cross-examined by lawyers for the accused persons.
