THE KUMASI Central Market Redevelopment Project has suffered yet another setback as a court has placed an injunction on the project.
About 1,200 traders in the Kumasi Central Market, who have been affected by the project, secured the injunction from a Kumasi High Court.
According to the traders, the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) was not being fair to them, hence their legal action.
The traders, the paper gathered, are demanding that the KMA properly relocate them in the city so that their businesses would not collapse; they also want a firm assurance from the KMA that they would not be overlooked after the completion of the modern market project.
The Kumasi Central Market project has suffered previous challenges from the traders who by and large do not want the idea of relocation.
The KMA PRO, Henrietta Aboagye, speaking on Akoma FM in Kumasi on Friday, confirmed that indeed an injunction had been placed on the project.
Even though she would not go into the details of the summons, she said the KMA lawyers were studying the summons to take necessary action.
She admitted that definitely the court injunction would have adverse effect on the project, adding that the traders sued the KMA and the contractors.
Henrietta Aboagye, however, said the KMA had not directed the contractors to stop work, saying “we are waiting for advice from our lawyers.”
