For the second time, persons with disabilities (PWDs) in the Kwabre East Municipality have received financial support and industrial machines from the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) through the Assembly.

Totalling GH¢99,392, the machines and cash bursaries were distributed to 100 people to expand their businesses, cover medical bills, and take care of school fees of the beneficiaries drawn from several communities in the district.

The Kwabre East Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Osei Assibey Bonsu, said government was committed to reducing the hardship of PWDs by empowering them economically to achieve financial independence.

“It is the hope of our government to get rid of all persons with disabilities out of the streets for them to earn a decent living. This is one of the ways,” he stated.

Mr. Assibey Bonsu said 2019 is the year of hope for Ghanaians as it would be the defining moment in shifting the country from its unsteady economic trajectory to a more sustainable path.

According to him, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government has laid the groundwork for future growth by stabilizing the economy and introducing reforms that will pave way for more sustainable development for the benefit of all citizens.

Mr. Bonsu disclosed that enough funds had been secured to undertake infrastructural projects, provide social amenities and other service delivery programmes.

He added that that government intends to construct a total of 120-kilometre road network in the district, including the construction of Mamponteng town roads which will begin early part of this year (2019).

The MCE explained that the road construction project encompasses highway, feeder and urban roads to provide a supersonic transport system for the citizenry.

He said the government’s industrialization agenda is on course with many entrepreneurs and investors showing interest in the ‘one district one factory (1D1F)’ programme.

According to him, three new proposals have been received by the Kwabre East Municipal Assembly for the establishment of three new factories to provide sustainable jobs to the locals, adding that the proposed factories include car battery production and orange juice processing manufacturing.
