District Chief Executive for Ellembelle in the Western Region, Kwasi Bonzoh, has advised electorate not to vote for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the upcoming elections if they want the continuous running of the Free SHS policy.
“The NDC and John Mahama are saying they will review the SHS policy when given the nod to lead the country again but it is obvious that they will cancel the policy because they described it as 419,” he said.
He suggested that the policy should be sustained to help improve the country’s human resource base.
He has, therefore, called on the people of Nzema to vote massively for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the December 7 elections for the continuation of the policy.
“We know there are challenges but we believe that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh would make things better,” he added.
The Ellembelle DCE, who doubles as the Parliamentary Candidate (PC) of the NPP in the area was speaking to journalists in an interview after he distributed about 1500 table and chairs to some basic and senior high schools in the district.
The chairs were procured with money from the Minerals Development Fund (MDF).
The beneficiary schools included Esiama SDA Basic School, Esiama Senior High Technical School, Kikam Technical Institute, Charlotte Dolphin School and Asanda Nursing Training School.
He revealed that because of the free SHS, the student population at Esiama Senior High Technical School for instance has increased from 800 to 1600.
He said as DCE, his priority has been to improve education.
He mentioned that for the past seven years, he has built 15 new schools in various communities in the district.
“Providing the schools with tables and chairs became a challenge but we are grateful to the Local Management Committee of the MDF for the support,” he noted.
The Community Development Planning Officer of MDF, Eric Ayiku, mentioned that the distribution of the items formed part of measures to ensure that Ghanaians benefit from the country’s mineral resources.
The Ellembelle District Director of Education, Wilfred Adodoadji, was hopeful that the initiative would help reduce the tables and chairs deficit in most basic and senior high schools.
