The La Nkwantanang-Madina District of the Greater Accra Region has emerged the top-most district in terms of development per the 2016 District League Table (DLT) rankings.

This was made known on Thursday in Accra during the launch of this year’s DLT report.

La Nkwantanang-Madina, which placed second to Tema Metropolitan in 2015 rankings, topped the table after scoring 77.8 percent compared to Tema Metropolitan which recorded 77.6 percent.

Awutu Senya East Municipal, 74.4 percent; Awutu Senya 72.5; Ejura Sekyeredumase Municipal, 72.4; Offinso Municipal 72.1 percent; Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai, 72.0 percent; Asante Akim North, 71.8 percent; Upper Denkyira East Municipal, 71.7 and Nsawam Adoagyiri Municipal, 71.3 percent are among the top 10 districts for 2016.

The DLT, introduced in 2014 by the Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD) and UNICEF Ghana, is a social accountability tool that ranks Ghana’s 216 districts by their level of development and service delivery

The District League Table uses indicators from six key sectors – health, education, sanitation, water, governance and security- to compile a single score for each district.

All the 216 districts are ranked which helps the two organizations to monitor districts that are doing well in Ghana.

The most improved district in the DLT 2016, DAILY GUIDE gathered, is Wa East in Upper West Region while North Tongu from the Volta Region placed 216 with 40.9 percent.

The DLT once again revealed that significant inequalities remain in various districts across the country.

Head of Research and Programs and Deputy Director of CDD-Ghana, Dr. Franklin Oduro, who presented the results of the 2016 DLT, said there were still challenges in bridging the inequality gap in the Northern and Volta Regions.

UNICEF Ghana Country Representative, Susan Ngongi, suggested that the data from the DLT should be used to develop the districts.

She said no district should be left behind in the country in terms of development.

Meanwhile, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of La Nkwantanang-Madina, Franklin Anku, attributed the success of the district to what he termed teamwork.
