Lecturer Lauds Govt Over TVET Investment

GOVERNMENT, UNDER the leadership of President Akufo-Addo, has been lauded for its massive investment in Technical, Vocational Education and Training (TVET) given the huge number of youth who are attracted to it in recent times.

Senior Lecturer at the Physics Department of the University of Cape Coast, Dr. Kwadwo Dompreh, said this during the graduation ceremony of the second batch of graduates of the Anointed Technical Training Institute, Saturday in Accra.

He said, “I am happy that the President has shown his commitment to ensuring that TVET continues to be one of the pillars of our education in the country. It is for this reason that the government has invested massively in TVET education over the last five years.”

He indicated that the upgrading of TVET institutions across the country showed government’s commitment to making TVET education a priority for socio-economic and industrial development.

“The upgrading and modernisation of all the erstwhile 34 National Vocational and Technical institutions, head offices and five apprenticeship offices across the country, are all indication that together, we can all make TVET education more appealing to the youth,” he noted.

According to him, the foundation of every nation largely depends on its technical skills workforce as proven by many developing countries.

Dr. Dompreh therefore advised the students to utilise the skills acquired beyond the certificates to solve challenges facing them, especially as they aim to achieve their aspirations in life.

“Let me remind you that graduation alone is not an end in itself; it is instead part of a larger journey of life.  Wherever your future takes you, let it take you somewhere better than where you were formerly.

“Life is a journey and all the accomplishments we achieve during its course should be taken as starting points, projecting us to wherever our futures are meant to take us,” he said.

Director of Administration of the school, Emile Ofori, also urged the students to show a high sense of integrity and professionalism as graduands having received about 80 per cent hands-on training from experienced top industry trainers.

In all, 46 students graduated in various disciplines with an Electrical and Controls student, Christian Sampson Kusitor, being awarded as the overall best student.

The school, which started in 2019, offers 13 programmes which include Electricals and Controls, Generators and Plants, Robotics and Artificial Intelligence, among others.
