The Chiefs and people of the Likpe Traditional area in the Volta region have embarked upon a programme that would enhance their living conditions.
Even before government comes in to provide any assistance, they have decided to mobilize funds to extend treated water to communities in the traditional area that are not yet being served by the Likpe Community Water and Sanitation Agency.
The decision was taken at the launch of this year’s ‘Lekoryi’ festival celebrated by the chiefs and people in the area in Accra on Saturday.
Chairman of the planning committee, Professor Anthony Aboagye who made the announcement during the launch of the festival said they also intend to expand the dam that supplies water to the town and replace aged equipment especially pumps to improve efficiency in the performance of the machinery.
They also want to scale up educational programmes with inter-schools quiz competitions and other educational activities.
The celebration is expected to begin with a visit to the ancestral caves on the Togo-Atakora mountain on Saturday March 3, to be followed by a marathon, cultural competitions and fun games on holy Thursday, March 29, and a remembrance of the ancestors and the departed on good Friday March 30, and climaxed on Saturday March 31, 2018.
Paramount chief of Likpe, Nana Soglo-Alloh IV who is also the President of the Volta regional House of Chiefs, has therefore charged all natives from Likpe both far and near to come and contribute and help develop Likpe and put it in an enviable position whilst extending a warm invitation to Ghanaians to come and experience their rich culture.
