Lucas Kwaku Mensah
One of the country’s renowned song writer and event organiser Lucas Kwaku Mensah, has reaffirmed his commitment to education with a promise to adopt the music department in five senior high school.
He has also announced his intentions to support brilliant but needy children who want to study Music in the school.
He disclosed that next year he would assist five schools, two in Accra, one in Cape Coast and two in Kumasi with musical instruments and books to help students who want to study Music.
Lucas Mensah who made these known in an interview said musicians today were not doing enough to reap the full benefits of having a career in music because they have failed to articulate its language well.
He noted that music is a language and that all those who want become good musicians must learn to speak it in order to reach the top.
He bemoaned the attitude of some musicians and chided them for not working hard enough to churn out high quality songs that would stand the test of time but relied heavily on sound engineers to make their productions appealing to the public.
According to him, music was Ghana’s musical soul and that it was a shame a large number of children could not learn it in school, adding “We must make it part of our education”.
He discounted claims that highlife music was more appealing to the older generation, saying that it was for people of all generations.
He urged the stakeholders in the music industry to come together and work as a team to promote Ghanaian music in schools.
