President Mahama acknowledges applause on arrival at the venue
President John Dramani Mahama has commissioned the new Steel Ball Mill and Section Mill Manufacturing Plant of B5 Plus Group, describing it as a major boost to Ghana’s industrial transformation and the government’s 24-Hour Economy agenda.
The state-of-the-art facility will expand local production of structural steel sections, grinding media balls for the mining sector, pre-engineered building systems and heavy industrial fabrications, strengthening domestic supply chains for infrastructure and construction.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony last Friday, President Mahama said reducing steel imports by even 20–30 per cent annually could save Ghana hundreds of millions of dollars in foreign exchange.
“This is what industrial sovereignty is about,” he stated, stressing the need for self-reliance and value addition.
He noted that steel consumption is a key indicator of industrial growth, rising alongside infrastructure development and urbanisation in emerging economies.
The President said the B5 Plus investment aligns with government’s policy on import substitution, job creation and infrastructure expansion, positioning Ghana as a competitive manufacturing hub in the region.
The commissioning marks another step in Ghana’s shift from raw material exports to value-added industrial production.
