Mahama Supporters In A Hit-And-Run Crash

The accident story

Supporters of President John Mahama who were driving in a newly-registered car knocked down a young man in his 30s just in front of the Accra Main office of UniBank at Komkomlemle in Accra yesterday.

The youthful supporters who were wearing party ‘T’ shirts had pasted a big poster of President Mahama on the bonnet of the vehicle.

As soon as the car hit the young man, who sustained serious injuries, the driver and another male occupant ran away, leaving the car, Toyota Corolla with registration number GN 2439-16 at the scene with another fear-stricken NDC lady in it.

Eyewitnesses told DAILY GUIDE that they were not surprised that they knocked the young man, who was crossing the road down due to their recklessness.

“They were driving beyond 50km/hr on a busy road linking the Accra Technical Training Centre where the UniBank is located,” an eyewitness said.

The passenger side of the windscreen got smashed, and the fender and headlight were also damaged.

After the driver and the other male occupant bolted, the car was towed to the Nima Police Station with the lady occupant, who was also wearing NDC T-shirt.

The victim of the hit-and-run was quickly transported to a hospital.

When DAILY GUIDE enquired from the Nima Police about the accident, the police were tight-lipped.

It is not clear whether the hit-and-run driver has reported himself to the police at the time of filing this report.

The female suspect in the case was made to change her NDC T-shirt for another attire at the Nima Police Station yesterday.

It was interesting when a forex bureau operator came and identified the lady as being in the same car which hit and injured him earlier.

In another development, some NDC youth moved to the Nima Police Station and removed the party poster on the car perhaps to avoid the embarrassment associated with the unruly conduct of the driver.

The Police strangely did not object to the action of the boys.
