The injured left wrist of the boy

A 64-YEAR-old man at Kotei in Kumasi has done the unthinkable by slashing the left wrist of a nine-year-old boy with a sharp cutlass over sugarcane.

Robert Quaicoe, the suspect, reportedly, saw the victim, Kelvin Oppong and his friends, now at large, harvesting sugarcane on his farm, on July 29, 2025 around 4:30pm.

The old man gave the young boys a wild chase from the farm, and he managed to apprehend Kelvin Oppong. He then slashed the left wrist of the nine-year-old boy with a cutlass.

Francis Adu, who is the father of Kelvin Oppong, upon seeing the injury caused to his son, apprehended the 64-year-old man and handed him to the KNUST District Police.

“On 01/08/2025, at 2140 hours, Francis Adu, a 40-year-old, driver’s mate, of Kotei, came to the KNUST police station with his son, nine (9)-year-old Kelvin Oppong with a bandaged left wrist, together with a 64-year-old suspect Robert Quaicoe.

“The complainant reported that, on 29/07/2025, about 1630 hours, the said suspect caught his son and some of his friends on his farm, harvesting his sugarcane.

“He managed to arrest his son and slashed his left wrist with cutlass whilst his friends fled,” the KNUST District Police report said, adding that “Suspect was re-arrested, cautioned and detained.”

A medical report form, the police said, was then issued to the complainant to have the victim treated at the hospital, noting that efforts are underway to get victim’s friends arrested to assist in investigations.
