A man believed to be in his early 20s has been arrested by the police for allegedly murdering a 69-year-old landlord at Kansaworodo near Takoradi under some bizarre circumstances.
The alleged murderer, suspected to be mentally deranged, was alleged to have used scissors and a knife to kill the 69-year-old man, Francis Quarm, also called Gabo, in his room.
It was revealed that the suspect screamed ‘I need blood’ while using the two sharp implements to stab the landlord.
According to some tenants in the house, they rushed to the room of the deceased after they heard him shouting for help, early morning of July 16, 2025.
They indicated that they saw the suspect also licking the blood on the sharp objects allegedly used in committing the crime.
Paulina Quarm, a daughter of the deceased, told journalists that her father was asleep when the unfortunate incident occurred.
She disclosed that the suspect forcibly entered her father’s room and attacked him without any provocation.
She said, “My father is the landlord and stayed in a different room. One of the tenants started shouting early in the morning after detecting that the suspect had attacked my father with knife and scissors.”
She indicated that although many people rushed to the scene, they could not get inside the deceased’s room because the suspect was armed and looked very aggressive.
“Eventually, one brave young man gathered the courage, entered and overpowered him, but by then, my father had already been killed,” she told journalists.
The Assembly Member for the area, George Cobbinah, confirmed the incident and said the suspect is a resident of the area.
He disclosed that the suspected mentally deranged man had recently been exhibiting disturbing behaviour believed to be linked to drug abuse.
“Just the day before the incident, he attacked his own mother, leaving her with serious injuries, and she is currently receiving treatment at the hospital.
“We tried capturing him but he disappeared until we received the devastating news of Mr. Quarm’s death,” Mr. Cobbinah recounted.
“The suspect was heard screaming that he needed more blood when he attacked the old man around midnight on that day.
“The victim, being elderly, could not defend himself,” he indicated.
The Assembly Member confirmed that the police have since arrested the suspect, and the victim’s lifeless body has been deposited at the Effia Nkwanta Hospital morgue in Sekondi.
