Napo and other dignitaries commissioning the borehole
INMATES OF the Manhyia Local Prison in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital, can now have constant supply of potable water.
This follows the official commissioning of a multi-purpose borehole at the place on Sunday.
The Men’s Fellowship of the Saint Anne’s Anglican Church at Ash Town in the Manhyia South Constituency of the city, constructed the borehole.
Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh aka Napo, Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency and Minister of Education, is a staunch member of the Fellowship.
In his short address, he stated that prisons are meant to reform the inmates for them to play significant roles towards national growth after their individual sentences have been served.
In this regard, Napo appealed passionately to the public to actively render their support for the upkeep of prisoners.
According to him, the gesture by members of the Fellowship was in fulfillment of the scriptures, which enjoin Christians to always support people in need.
The Commander of the Manhyia Local Prison, ADP Hanson Adu Awuku, said his outfit made an appeal to the Men’s Fellowship and they had responded positively.
He pointed out that the construction of the borehole, with huge tanks to store water, would go a long way to help reduce water bills at the prison.
ADP Awuku recounted that water supply to the facility usually got interrupted, which generated a lot of problems for the inmates.
