It was quite an eventful weekend for Megan Thee Stallion. After graduating from Texas Southern University on Saturday, she received a very prestigious award.
The ‘Savage’ rapper is the latest recipient of the Congressional District Humanitarian Award in Houston, Texas, making her the 18th person to receive it. She dedicated the honour to her late grandmother and accepted it from Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee. Lee said that not many people have received this award.
She says, “This award has not been given out often, or to many,” Lee shared with those in attendance, before presenting the accolade. “When this award is given, it has that special promise and special history.”
Megan thanked the city of Houston for looking out for her and her grandmother for valuable life lessons.
She said, “My grandma always taught me to be kind and giving. I learned that from her,” she continued, giving credit to her mother and grandmother. “I was raised by very giving women.”
“So I want to dedicate this award to my grandma because she taught me to be the woman I am today.”
The ceremony comes a day after she received her Bachelor’s degree in Health Administration. Once the rapper blew up from hottie anthem, ‘Big Ole Freak,’ she made it clear that she wanted to continue school. She took classes virtually and part-time.
The recent graduate was doing online classes before quarantine. “I had to because I couldn’t go on campus anymore. I mean, my focus was definitely better because I didn’t have a lot of distractions. But I’m still in school, and I’m projected to graduate in 2021!”
And that she did!
