MEGHIS Wins Planet Broadway Festival

An outstanding cultural music and dance performance by the Universal Wonderful Street Academy, characterized this year’s Planet Broadway Drama festival, held at the Ebenezer Hall in Osu, Accra, last Friday.

The event brought together students from 17 Senior High School across the country with Methodist Girls’ Senior High School (MEGHIS), Mamfe, in the Eastern Region, emerging as winners of the competition.

Organized by Heritage of Africa in partnership with the National Commission on Culture, The Arts and Culture Company, it was endorsed by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly and the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources.

The event themed, “The Benefits of Sanitation on National Development”, had Mrs. Vivian Boateng and Mr. David Quaye, both lecturers for the school of performing Arts, University of Ghana, and Rev. Daniel Kojo Delong, a theatre practitioner and an actor, as judges.

The goal for this year competition was to educate the youth and general public on the benefits of sanitation on national development.

Participating   schools in the competition were given the opportunity to educate the youth and general public through the use of drama.

MEGHIS, came first with their outstanding performance, Presbyterian Senior High School, La, took the second position,  Labone Senior High School won the third position, Keta Business College came fourth and Aburi Girls’ Senior High School took the fifth position.

The Deputy Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum as well as the Executive Director of the National Commission on Culture, were present at the event.

Martha Adjoa Annan, the Innovations Manager of Jekora Ventures Limited, a waste management company, also educated the students on how to recycle waste products.

The Deputy Minister of Education, Executive Director of National Commission on Culture, Kofi Adjorlolo, Edinam Atatsi, and Louis Yeboah Womder Doe were honoured at the event.

Some theatre practitioners such as Clemento Suarez, Rhoda Ampene and many others were present.
