The Appointments Committee of Parliament is set to conduct vetting and approval hearings for the six nominees of President Akufo-Addo to various ministerial positions on Monday.

Notice of the vetting, which was advertised in the Order Paper of Parliament, said members of the committee would meet at the Committee Rooms 1 &2 of the Administration Block at 10:00 am to consider and approve the President’s nominations.

The nominees expected to appear before the committee’s two-day hearing include Kobina Tahir Hammond, Bryan Acheampong, Stephen Asamoah Boateng, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, Osei Bonsu Amoah, and Dr. Stephen Amoah.

Kobina Tahir Hammond, popularly known as K T Hammond, has been nominated to the position of Trade and Industry Minister, Bryan Acheampong to the position of Food and Agriculture Minister, and Stephen Asamoah Boateng (Asabee) to Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs Minister.

Dr. Amin Adam and O B Amoah have been nominated to the positions of Minister of State at the Finance Ministry and Minister of State at the Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development Ministry, whilst Dr. Stephen Amoah aka Sticker has been nominated to the position of the Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry.

K.T. Hammond, who is the Adansi-Asokwa NPP MP, was appointed by the President to replace Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, while Bryan Acheampong will replace Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto after their resignation.

The President also appointed Stephen Asamoah Boateng as Minister designate for the Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs to replace Ebenezer Kojo Kum, who is the NPP MP for Ahanta West, after his abrupt resignation of his position on February 3, 2023.

The appointments were announced by the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin on February 7, 2023, stating that they were done in accordance with Article 78(1) of the Constitution.

Dr. Amin Adam, the NPP’s Karaga MP, will also replace Charles Adu Boahen, who was fired by the President last year, whereas O B Amoah’s promotion is from Deputy Minister of Local Government, Decentralisation, and Rural Development to Minister of State in the same Ministry.

“As consequence of the nomination of Dr. Amin Adam as Minister of State at the Ministry of Finance, I want to inform Parliament that I intend to transfer Herbert Krapa to the Ministry of Energy as Deputy Minister for Energy,” the communication read.

As a result of the vacancy created by the government’s reorganization, President Akufo-Addo also appointed Dr. Stephen Amoah as Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry.
