Kwaku Agyeman-Manu
HEALTH MINISTER Kwaku Agyeman-Manu has directed that two hospitals should immediately be turned into Covid-19 treatment centres.
They are the Bekwai and Fomena government hospitals, both located in the Ashanti Region.
The minister said both facilities under construction had reached the level that makes it possible for some completed structures to be turned into Covid-19 treatment centres.
Reported cases of Covid-19 are on the ascendancy, with confirmed cases crossing 25,000 even though the recovery rate is also high.
Considering the fact that the Ashanti Region is considered one of the epicentres of Covid-19 by the health authorities, the minister said there was the need to create more treatment centres in the region.
Mr. Agyeman-Manu disclosed that they were making plans to make sure that the temporary structures are turned into Covid-19 treatment centres in about two weeks’ time.
“In two weeks’ time, the Fomena and Bekwai government hospitals would be ready as Covid-19 treatment centres to take care of patients,” he said.
Mr. Agyeman-Manu, who was on a working visit to the construction site of both hospitals, urged contractors working on the projects to expedite action and finish on time.
The Health Minister was on the working tour with some top officials of the Ghana Health Service to assess the progress of work going on at both health facilities.
