Miss Ghana Foundation with the kind support of Ghana National Gas Company has donated GH¢50,000.00 to Foundation of Orthopedics and Complex Spine (FOCOS) Hospital to cater for the cost of surgery for 16-year-old Jacklyn Ndede Boadi, a scoliosis patient.
The donation is the first installment to commence surgical procedure for the teenager, out of a total cost of GH¢80,000.00.
Mother of the patient, Madam Francisca Bakari revealed that, she noticed her daughter’s deformity in January 2020 and sought medical care at the Kasoa Central Clinic, where they were referred to FOCOS Hospital for further investigation and treatment.
She has had difficulty in breathing and often experiences severe back pain, especially when she sits for longer periods or bends over. As a result, she is unable to further her education.
Jacklyn is easily fatigued and unable to perform simple house chores.
Jacklyn’s surgery was on hold due to lack of funds but with the timely intervention of Miss Ghana Foundation and Ghana Gas, she would be able to undergo a successful surgery. She has keen interest in returning to school and pursuing her passion in travel & tour and hospitality services, and aspires to become an air hostess in future.
Presenting the donation, Chairperson of the Miss Ghana Foundation, Miss Inna Mariam Patty, reiterated that Miss Ghana Foundation (MGF) is passionate about positively impacting lives, and projects such as helping pay cost of surgery for children suffering from scoliosis is one of the social intervention projects MGF embarks upon under health. We are grateful to benevolent organisations such as Ghana Gas and would humbly appeal to more of such organisations to support the good works of MGF.
Miss Ghana 2020 winner, Monique Mawulawe Agbedekpui appealed to individuals and corporate Ghana to support the works of the foundation to help positively impact the lives of mankind.
Dr. Irene Adorkor Wulff, CEO for FOCOS Hospital, who received the donation on behalf of the hospital, commended Miss Ghana Foundation and Ghana Gas for the kind gesture, and like Oliver Twist asked for more support for children waiting in line to correct ailment.
