MMDAs Advised To Identify Potential PPP Projects

Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo

The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo, has urged Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to identify development projects in their area that can be executed under Public Private Partnership (PPP).

This, he said, will enhance the overall development of their respective districts and the region as a whole.

Mr. Afotey Agbo made this known at an investment sensitization programme organized by the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) in Accra.

GIPC is responsible for the promotion of investments in Ghana.

The sensitization programme focused on MMDAs and entrepreneurs in the Greater Accra region.

Mr Afotey Agbo, in an address read on his behalf, said the Regional Investment Sensitization programme undertaken by GIPC in Accra was designed to encourage indigenous Ghanaian companies to take advantage of the provisions in the Local Content Law, which requires that the foreign investor cedes a minimum of 10 percent share to the local company as a partner.

He said government believes MMDAs are that the unit for development for the country, and that GIPC also recognizes the fact that the Regional Co-ordinating Councils are responsible for coordinating and harmonizing the design and preparation of development plans for the regions.

Director of Monitoring and Tracking at GIPC, David Laryea, disclosed that GIPC manages a database which contains information on lands that are available for lease which investors can readily access upon request.

He called on MMDAs to create and run model land banks, especially in collaboration with traditional authorities and put together investors guide to facilitate investments under their jurisdictions to enhance socio-economic development.
