Jose Mourinho
Jose Mourinho jokingly bemoaned today’s obsession with phones as his Tottenham stars were all spotted staring at their devices in the dressing room in the aftermath of their hard-fought victory at Burnley.
Tottenham had to dig deep to get the three points at Turf Moor on Monday night with Son Heung-min’s late second-half goal proving enough to see them edge past a resilient Burnley side.
The victory saw Spurs move up to fifth on the table and just two points off top spot, but the celebrations afterwards were muted—like Mourinho would have preferred his players’ phones to have stayed.
Mourinho posed for a picture in the dressing room showing his players engrossed by their mobiles—but to illustrate his point, posted it on social media!
“After a great victory in a really hard match… Sign of the times,” Mourinho wrote on Instagram.
Tottenham didn’t find the breakthrough until the 76th minute when Son combined with Harry Kane for the ninth time this season to seal a third consecutive win on the road.
And the Spurs boss appreciated how tough Burnley made it for his side and was quick to heap praise on his opposite number, Sean Dyche, for how he set his team up.
“It was exactly what I was expecting. I know Sean, I know how difficult he can make it for the best of attacking teams,” Mourinho told Sky Sports after the victory.
“He is very clever, he plays with what he has, and he gave us a very difficult match. So congratulations to him and his boys.
“My players didn’t play the quality football that we wanted but because of Burnley, not because of us. So I think we did a positive game,” he noted.
