Muslim Confab Petition Indian High Commission

The National Muslim Conference of Ghana (NMCG) has petitioned the Indian High Commission over what according them is an insulting remarks about Prophet Muhammed (PBUH), his wife and mother.

They stated in the petition signed by Inusah Mohammed Baba, Ag General of the Conference that, “Muslims in Ghana join the global Islamic fraternity of two billion to bemoan the recent insulting comments made by high ranking Indian government officials directed at Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) and at his wife, mother of all Muslims Aisha.”

The Conference however noted with satisfaction the decision by the Indian authorities to suspend those responsible for the insulting remarks, Nupur Sharma, National Spokeswoman of the Hindu ruling party BJP and the party’s Delhi media head, Naveen Kumar Jindal, but was quick to take issues with the delay in sanctioning the sources of the remarks, something which according to them leaves much to be desired.

“We Muslims in Ghana are particularly dismayed because the statement in question is not an isolated effusion of two Indian political figures but rather a sad reflection of an escalation of a pattern of hatred in which we hear calls for violence and sometimes even genocide against Muslims in India,” they disclosed.

They added that there is evidence of official acquiescence and Islamophobia by officials and a leveraging of a new mass culture dominated by cinema, poetry, and music loaded with inflammatory content.

“We Muslims in Ghana are part of the international comity of Islam and we join in condemning in the strongest possible terms the insulting comments made by the two politicians herein mentioned. We demand unconditional apology for the incendiary remarks. We also demand active measures to stem the tide of Islamophobia.”
