My Dad Said I’m Still A Legend – Davido

Nigerian Afrobeat sensation, Davido, may have missed out on securing a win at the recently concluded 66th edition of the Grammy Awards, but the experience has not dampened his spirits.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Davido reflected on his journey to stardom and shared how his father’s unwavering support continues to inspire him.

The 2024 Grammy Awards, held at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on Sunday, saw Davido nominated for the first time in his career. Despite being nominated in three categories, Davido, along with all other Nigerian nominees, left empty-handed.

However, rather than dwell on the disappointment of the loss, Davido expressed pride in his accomplishments, and gratitude for the recognition he received. “Being nominated alone is enough to make me proud of myself,” he remarked during the interview.

“I just wanted my song to be heard on the radio once or twice in the beginning, but for it to transcend to this is just amazing and God’s doing,” he added.

Davido also shared a touching moment he had with his father, where the elder reassured him of his status as a legend regardless of the Grammy outcome. “I was on the phone with my dad yesterday and he was like, ‘Son, no matter what happens, you are still a legend’. So yeah, he is a big fan,” Davido recounted.

Despite the setback at the Grammys, Davido remains grateful for the journey and optimistic about the future of his music.
