President Encourages Consumption Of Kotomire, Dawadawa, Okro

President Nana Akufo-Addo

President Nana Akufo-Addo is urging Ghanaians to increase their consumption of foods that boost the body’s immune system to help fight Coronavirus (Covid-19) infection.

The President in his 9th Covid-19 address on Sunday night said vitamins A, B6, C, and E that fortify the immune system of the body can be found in food items readily available in the country.

“Fortunately for us, in Ghana, all of these can be found in many of our foods, such as oranges, kontomire, millet, cashew nuts, crabs, plantain, okro, dawadawa, brown rice and mushrooms,” he said.

Aside the suggestion for healthy diets, President Akufo-Addo called for improved hygiene, fitness and exercises which will as well help boost the immunity of the body against diseases and the virus.

“Following a good diet, patronising our healthy foods, exercising regularly, ensuring our personal hygiene, and improving our lifestyle habits should become part and parcel of our daily routines, which will help bolster our immune systems, and help us in the fight against the pandemic,” he said.

He also indicated that the virus which is no respecter of persons, can be defeated if Ghanaians continue to look out for one another, remain each other’s keeper and adhere to the preventive protocols.

“It is, thus, vital that we continue to maintain the measures of enhanced hygiene and social distancing protocols to contain the spread of the virus, as they are the surest way to a quick return to a life of normalcy.

“All stakeholder bodies I have interacted with over the last three weeks, in the health, labour, religious, chieftaincy, educational, hospitality, tourism and creative arts sectors, share in this opinion, because, collectively, we believe they are essential for our very survival,” he added.
