Nana Gives Black Challenge Cash

President Akufo-Addo

President Akufo-Addo has announced a package of $2,000 each to players of the Black Challenge squad for winning 2021 African Amputee Football Championship (CANAF) in Tanzania.

The Minister for Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, delivering the President’s message to the team, told the players, “The country is very proud of your achievements.”

The minister admonished the team for refusing to inform the ministry of their participation in the Championship, adding that the ideal procedure was to write to the ministry for the necessary support, which they failed to do, but was quick to accept their apologies, saying, “you did not come back empty-handed.”

The minister assured the team of government’s support and assistance in their quest to represent Ghana at the 2022 Amputee World Cup slated for Turkey.

He called on the team to forge ahead in unity to attract the needed attention and support from the government going forward.

The President of the Ghana Paralympic Committee, who doubles as the President of the African Paralympic Committee, Mr. Samson Deen, on his part and on behalf of the paralympic movement, expressed their sincere apologies to the President, and the Minister for Youth and Sports, for disregarding due process, adding that it was a mistake that will never happen again.

He expressed his joy that the team was committed to the reconciliation and building process and was ready to bury their differences.

He revealed that because the team had won the trophy, the court will sit on their long-standing case from January 24 to 27, 2022 to bring finality to litigation.
