Nana Yaw Amponsah
The dwindling fortunes of Ghana football in recent times have stirred Nana Yaw Amponsah (NYA) to vie for the position of Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) president.
The GFA presidential aspirant disclosed that he has what it takes to steer the country’s football to assume a modern entity befitting Ghana as a football powerhouse.
To the Phar Rangers CEO, the infamous ‘Number 12’ documentary and its antecedent call for a restoration of the game’s integrity and how to make it a viable commercial venture.
That and other social interventions, he told Peace FM’s morning show host, Kwame Sefa Kayi, is captured in his manifesto.
“My vision for Ghana football is restoration, commercialisation and reform proposals regarding how to move our game forward. The vision is very practicable and are (sic) doable. I want to lay a solid foundation, so somebody can continue, when I’m no more in office,” he said in the interview.
He added, “I have met top CEOs who have vast knowledge about the game; we should involve everybody who has knowledge about the game and not leave it for a selected few.”
And responding to how well versed he is in the game, he said, “I have gone through the mill, was a FIFA agent for more than a decade, read sports law in the UK, dealt with clubs ? how to make the business a viable one. I tell then football has moved from just recreation. Tell them how to run it as a commercial venture that will benefit the country in totality.”
He has succeeded in securing a kit sponsorship deal from a Turkish kit company (Fitcom) for 60 clubs in the country.
September 27 is set for the GFA election.
