A scary video of a dozen or so young men, some of them wielding clubs and one, a pump action firearm, chanting “Vote for NDC” trended yesterday on social media.
The location where the movie-like scenario was cast is unknown but DAILY GUIDE could confirm that security agents were on their trail.
The young men who spoke both Hausa and Twi said “do you see how we are all suffering? Everybody is tired. Let us all vote for NDC. John Mahama, no more Nana Addo.”
One of them even used a blunt object to mimic a tummy slashing procedure.
A security analyst has said that “there is no doubt that there is “fear and panic” being relayed across the country ahead of the December 7 election and there could be more from the NDC.”
The video clip was a noisy one, with each one of the people captured trying to scream their messages, all of them anything but heartwarming.
The diatribe began with a voice initially telling his colleagues in Hausa, “let us talk.” This preceded the ominous sounding Hausa and Akan remarks about how they wanted the elections to go on December 7.
As the cacophony of voices rent the air, a man wielding a pump action gun fired continuously into the air. The sound of a motorcycle deliberately brought into the scenario added to the eerie atmosphere.
The message of the video was clear. There is desperation on the part of some political elements in the country. Such persons, it will appear, want to rely on fear and panic to prop their agenda.
Varied reactions have been triggered by the video, one of them asking the security agencies to pick the hoodlums up.
“Arresting the hoodlums and searching their homes will reveal telltale evidences about their criminal records,” a person reacted.
Another said “criminal elements are finding solace in politics. These elements will want to use the elections as a means of rolling out their strategies.”
The foregone video is coming on the heels of recent incidents of security breaches.
A taxi conveying weapons allegedly owned by a politician is being investigated by the police.
NPP Caution
On Monday, the ruling NPP accused former President Mahama for inciting NDC supporters against the country’s security forces ahead of the December 7 election.
Seth Kwame Acheampong, NPP MP for Mpraeso, who is the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Defense and Interior, said Mr. Mahama’s posture in recent times did not auger well for the country.
“We wish to draw attention to some despicable unpresidential remarks made by candidate Mahama over the weekend about our security officials. Shocking for a former Commander of the Ghana Armed Forces to tell dangerous lies about the security of the nation,” he had said.
He said, “We strongly condemn these despicable remarks by candidate Mahama and the recent attempts by the NDC to politicize our security forces. His statements are totally false and unfounded and he ought to be ashamed of himself.”
According to the NPP, Mr. Mahama has seen the signs on the wall that he will lose on December 7, and is therefore using “intimidating tactics” to prevent Ghanaians from going out to vote.
