Nigerian pro golfer Sunday Olapade will be smiling to the bank to cash out GH¢80,000 after winning this year’s Gold Fields PGA Golf tourney (10th edition) at the Damang Golf Club over the weekend.
He recorded an impressive 286 points over four days, beating Ghana’s Kojo Barni on count back, while Vincent Torgah finished third, losing by just a stroke.
Ace pro golfer Emos Korblah finished first in the seniors category to pocket the GH¢25,000 at stake, GH¢5,000 more than last year’s.
He recorded a 218 points over four days to pick the big cheque.
Peter Korsah finished second after amassing 233 points to beat Robert Degbe by two strokes.
Kumasi-based Constance Awuni, won the female pros category with 159 points, with Jessica Tei and another golfer from Kumasi, Felicity Okyei-Gyeabour following with 177and 178 respectively.
A 30 point handed Isaac Asante the ultimate in the men’s group A category. Samuel Allotey finished second, beating Hans De Beer on count back with 29 points.
In the men’s group B category, Roger Adama beat Prince Awuley on count back with 29 points for the first position, while Joshua Donkor picked the second position with 28 points.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, chairman of the organising committee of the tournament, Hans De Beer and his vice, Roger Adamah, congratulated the players for their performance and praised them for their high sense of discipline.
PGA’s Operations Director, Alhaji Ahmed Padori and tournament director, Rev. Akwasi Prempeh were excited about the success of the tournament.
Apart from the cash prizes, golfers who excelled in their respective categories left the Tarkwa-based Damang Golf Club with trophies and other goodies.
This year’s event saw the total cash prize increasing from GH¢346,000 to GH¢385,000.
