Sammy Gyamfi
Sammy Gyamfi has blended well with the ways of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He has been so assimilated into the party that his name is now synonymous with the indecorous and for that matter ugly face of the political grouping he speaks for.
He does not appear to be a person intent on making the NDC attractive for those seeking which party to vote for when the time to go the polls is due.
Unfortunately for the NDC, this is the man who represents the face of the party. His posture, intemperate language, uncouthness and disregard for civility have earned for his party a heightened public opprobrium.
A rebranding of the party is all the NDC needs and not a hypocritical opposition to a necessary new voters’ register.
Sammy has embarked on a rather dangerous and unproductive agenda of running down the Electoral Commission (EC). He championed his party’s previous coordinated efforts, having failed to bring down the commission which on the other hand and ironically is gaining a better traction of the political grounds.
A couple of days ago, Sammy Gyamfi tried unsuccessfully to link the ‘I Can’t Breathe’ demonstrations in the US, to what in his warped mind and his flag bearer’s, with the EC. Besides being unrelated, this analogy was born out of misplaced mischief. Doing this through a cartoon whose details are so groundless we would rather not present them textually lest we exhibit similar cognitive dissonance as Sammy and his boss are doing.Â
It is unfortunate that George Floyd’s murder which has triggered international outrage regarding racism would be so exploited for the parochial end of a party which lacks scruples.
We recall the NDC flag bearer expressing, hypocritically, concern about the murder of the African-American when in another breath he endorses the application of the unfortunate development as a pawn in a mischievous agenda.
A party which boasts of a violent pedigree is a perfect burrow for the likes of Sammy Gyamfi who can look in the face of men in the age of his grandfather and insult them besides showing indifference about the murder of a man by a racist cop in far away USA.
Sammy has won the admiration of his flag bearer for daring to do what others, well brought up individuals, can hardly do such poking fun in the murder of George Floyd the way he did their commissioned cartoon.
Sammy has successfully joined the ranks of the bad nuts who give politics its bad name in local politics and unattractive to persons who cannot harbour the misconduct of poorly brought up young men.
We are constrained to find out whether apart from suffering an acknowledged dearth of decorum, the NDC does not have a Council of Elders who should under such circumstances whip foolish officers into line and constantly ensure  that they do not get silly in their public discourse.
For a party to suffer two major deficiencies as in the foregone thoughts, they would only struggle as it is becoming glaring, to be relevant in the Ghanaian context.
Ghana is afflicted by two ailments – NDC and Covid-19. The latter is being addressed as scientists across the world are busy researching vaccines and therapeutic interventions, for which an appreciable number of candidates have been unearthed. That is not the case with the NDC whose toxicity is so high that addressing it is not within our reach.
Taking precautionary measures, such as being mindful of their cunningness, vacillation, hypocrisy and deviousness, are our best bet.
