‘No More Rigging In Ashaiman’

THE PARLIAMENTARY candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Alhaji Yakubu Labarran Barry held no punches on Saturday as he accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of rigging past elections conducted in the area.

He warned that this year’s elections will not see such illegality since he is going to ensure that the elections are conducted in a free and fair manner devoid of any irregularity.

Addressing an enthusiastic crowd who joined him in solidarity for a health walk dubbed ‘Walk For Change’ on Saturday, Alhaji Barry promised them of wrestling the seat for the second time for the NPP in this year’s polls as happened in 2000.

“I assure of you, Ghanaians will see the true votes from Ashaiman this year. All the results in the previous elections have been as a result of the NDC rigging the elections in this constituency. We will not countenance that this year,” he pointed out.

He dismissed assertions by sections of the media and politicians that the Ashaiman constituency is an NDC dominated area and therefore a no-go zone for the NPP, stressing that, that assertion will change this year.

According to him, “modern politics is dynamic and is simply about education. It is wrong for anybody to assume that the Ashaiman seat would forever remain an NDC seat and I will prove to all and sundry that the seat does not belong to the NDC.”

The NPP candidate advised the electorates in his constituency to assess their leadership and vote for the person who is ready to help bring development into the area since the years of NDC’s occupation of the seat has not brought any tangible development to the area.

For his part, Joseph Brown, the Ashaiman Constituency Chairman of the NPP explained that the unannounced health walk was to test the readiness of the constituents to change their political leaders and he was excited about the turnout.

He noted that the people of Ashaiman are unhappy with the performance of the NDC administration so they are ready to change their voting pattern to vote for Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Alhaji Barry, the NPP parliamentary candidate for the constituency.
